Ever since I first bought the car (November), the powerseats have been real touchy. The seats only work/move about 30-40% of the time. I'll push the levers and stuff, but no go. When one seat doesn't work, they both don't work (they eaither both work, or neither of them work). This is a real pain:evil:. I have checked the fuses, and they're good. Any ideas?
I was thinking the same thing but both motors gone at the same time? Maybe a ground also or a rusted / corroded wire on the harness going to the seats???? Something along those lines
I just stated experiecing the same exact problem 2 days ago. either both work or neither work. I will keep everyone updated if I come up with a solution or will keep an eye on this thread for other people's solutions
If both seats work / do not work as a pair check the relay under the drivers seat, one does heat and the other motion, I think. Pop the relay(s) out and gently bend the contacts outwards, cleaning them may not hurt either. The passenger seat will not operate if the drivers seat does not have power.
If that does nothing try swapping the position of the relays under the drivers seat and check again. That may help track down a bad relay.
Problem fixed. Mine was the relay. It had actually popped off. Kind of a pain in the **** to get back on there but now everything seems to be ok with the seat movement. Also I only have one relay under each seat but there are 2 spots under each seat to plug into. not sure why that is.
I have basically pulled out, checked, put back in every little plug I could get my hands on under there. What does the one look like that I'm supposed to be looking for, just to make sure I got it, because I still have this problem.
I switched the relays and it worked, but now, just everyonce in a while, I have to push the relay back in, but it doesn't even feel like its moving but it makes the seat work. Is there a way to fix that?
And a little side question. What is the little thing that goes around the key ignition called? Just that little ring with "off...." and stuff writen on it. Thanks.
Aside from making sure the contacts and socket are clean, duct tape comes to mind. The PO of my car had used half a roll on my passenger seat to no avail. Bending the contacts outward did the trick for me.
An idea, maybe a shim between the seat chassis and the seat controller to apply force to the back of the relays. Or if the seats are out, pull the seat controller and use a zip tie around the relay and contact housing. Ill try that in the morning and see how it works, nothing else to do, still waiting on calipers - thanks NAPA
As for the trim thingy, Saab EPC lists it as:
cover part no. 4389649
but thats for the whole ignition switch cover, which includes the trim thingy.
Yeah mines were doing the same thing a few days back and i got the compressed it anc sprays it and i so WD-40 and cleaned it and it didnt give me any problem after that.
