I am thoroughly interested in installing an HID kit in my car. I have a few friends with these installed and they seem to work nicely. However, most people get cheap kits with cheap systems.
I hear there are actually some nice aftermarket HID kits out there, so I am wondering if anybody has any suggestions. I know these can cost in upwards of $300+ but if I am going to do the investment, I might as well do it right the first time. I know some have two arcs on one bulb, but they seem to be hard to find. Who can suggest a kit?
I've only seen two ways of making an H4 bi-xenon (hi/lo) kit. One type uses a moveable reflector and the other type tilts the bulb. Mtec has a decent looking set, but the hi/lo version is hard to find.
I would like to see somebody buy some projectors and install them into the stock headlight housing. I guess all of the reflectors and glass would have to be replaced
there is one company that does use two filaments, it is xenon vision and the seller intensehid on ebay sells their kits. i know because i have their kit. it is a little more expensive but i think it is because of having to use two sets of ballasts and ingitors for each side and a different bulb altogether. I am gonna try a projector retrofit. i have all the parts i just need to do some trial and error on the wiring and mounting. maybe the summer.

I hope you are planning on replacing the fluted lenses of the stock headlight housing. If you dont, all of your time will have been wasted on something that looks (and works) like crap. You need to have a smooth lens to work with projectors. As no smooth lenses are currently made for our headlights, this will need to be fabricated, and would be the largest hurdle of such a project.

yea i do plan on that and yea that will be far more annoying and time consuming than all the rest. i was thinking of grinding out a circle where the beam exits kind of like the last series passat does.
i thought i read about a xenon system that adjusts its brightness by moving the bulb forward or backward in its housing. if i were to do hid (and i seriously need to check the laws here), that's a system i would use.
Hi guys,
Be extremly careful with HID installation.
One of my previous cars was MY2001 9-3 with Hirsch Step1 upgrade. The new owner who have bought it installed a HID hedalight set.
Of course, the computer sent an error code because the OG9-3 is not prepared to the HID.
The technician tried to clear the error code connecting a Bosch diagnostic computer to the bus. Of course, he was not trained how to use it on a Saab. So, he did it wrong which led to an unexpected result: the built in protection of Hirsch upgrade rated it as a "sabotage" or "unautorizhed access" and executed suicide: a total reset on the ECU restoring the factory settings, practically the Hirsch upgrade has been deleted.
