So Im driving to work this past Saturday to cover for one of my fellow employees who couldnt make it, when I am in the far right lane when the friggin jackass in the middle lane decides to pull into the parking lot.... while im next to him! I wasnt in his blind spot because my hood was actually in front of his car. To avoid contact, I swerved right and jumped over a sidewalk almost 10 inches high. Needless to say both control arms on each side are scap, hub assembly is junk as well as the steering rack, tie rods, 2 BRAND NEW 10 DAYS OLD BBS RX 18" with 225/40/18 Kumho MX's, downpipe cracked and a whole bunch of plastic shields torn off. Now I am at the mercy of my insurance! 25 years old and this is my first claim... Just when my premium is supposed to go down: BAM in your face! The insurance adjustor felt bad for me since it was less than 10 days i had put my wheels on. The worst part is the dumbass in the other car casually comes out of his car, goes inside the mall and grabs a coffee, then comes out to start yelling at me! Luckily im a patient guy! Here are some pics...
Yea I know. You need to stop doing that :nono; . No! really. stop
69mgb, The insurance company may not cover all the cost of repairs unless you got the car evaluated before insuring it. Did you cover your mods under the insurance contract?
Man if that happend to me I wouldn't have let the guy go anywhere. I woulda made sure I was ok, find people who witnessed it and get them to hang buy, call cops, find the guy who caused me to have to do that and go at it.
hkayssi, please don't tell me that! I didnt notify my wheels to my insurance since I had JUST put them on, plus i had an appointment next week to get my bumper and hood painted, as well as getting a full compound and shampoo. The adjustor guy said the wheels shouldnt be a problem to claim since they were so recently installed. We'll see how things pan out tomorrow with my claim!

I have a witness but the way insurance work here in Quebec (no fault insurance) it's my word against his. Even though the cops at the scene told me flat out that they believe me since the guy kept changing his story, but they arent aloud to have any input since they are supposed to be neutral. They told me had i NOT avoided him and let him hit me, there wouldnt even be a discussion and my car woulda been covered 100%?! So by AVOIDING a big accident, I infact shot myself in the foot?!

Not wheels but other mods like the down pipe and lowered suspension, Viggen kit. Special bushings and so on. Wheels aren't a mod thank God.
Look, worse comes to worse you can reair the car with a contract price. In other words a body shop garantees the work not to surpass 75% or 80% of the car's market value. Usually you'd fork the rest on the money. Not a problem if you get the parts cheap. I'm sure Pascal would get you all the factory parts. The tie rods, wheels and such would be covered by the insurance so get them from Genuine SAAB or eEuroparts. Pascal's fender is black as well so no need to paint and you need not pay any shipping for the parts. you can pick up all the parts yourself.
If you have any problems just shoot me an email. I'll see what I can do to help :cheesy:
Unfortunately, that's about right. A couple of guys at work were talking about just this kind of thing last week. One person's insurance company actually told him to stay in his lane and let someone hit him because if he swerved and hit the curb, causing the damage himself, it's his fault. A couple of years ago my dad's insurance wouldn't cover any repairs to his car when he did that same thing, hitting a curb to avoid someone coming over on him. Believe me, he was mad!
My insurance company hiked up my insurance rate by 40% because I filed a claim when my sister's neighbor backed up his car from his garage entrance and didn't look to see my parked car. Now you know that if I wasn't even in the car, I'm not at fault right? The insurance company even sent me a letter stating I wasn't at faut at all. There's a catch; I filed a claim so my insurance rate goes up Luckily it was my Ford (my company car) so the insurance company corrected the amount on my SAAB contract. Insurance companies are like the MAFIA :x

I hope it's not ING or Belair Direct (same company by the way) My brother had a big problem with them regarding the estimate and calculation of his car's worth and he went at it with them for months until he got paid double the initial offer but still waaaay below market value. Bunch of crooks. :nono;

I used to be with Bel Air but I just switched over to RBC last year. I just saw the estimate of repairs on my car.... wtf are these people smoking when they evalute these cars???? $3800 in repair is a little far-fetched. OK, the wheels are around $750 each plus my tires, so a big chunk of it is there, but he quoted 22 hours of work on the car whereas there is MAX 7 hours! I found all the parts at Sylcar and they are ready to be picked up tomorrow. It just SUCKS that i wont get a replacement mag on my car for another month!!! Once i get the police report, my insurance is supposed to claim it with the other dumbass' insurance and see what we can get. I HOPE my premium doesnt go up alot!
As far as claiming the mods go, I never bothered since Im the one who made my exhaust and did all the work. I didnt want them to jack up my rates for an afternoon's worth of work... We'll see if all goes well
I can't help but think if i had better brakes, i might have been able to avoid this....
Next project (after the intercooler): BRAKES!!!
I'm thinking of using 911 Twin Turbo calipers with a 13" disc, plus i can build my own SAE approved brake lines (cool little machine that does it!). I hate that feeling of not being able to stop.... It was my first accident and all these "what if's" are going through my head! ARGH make it stop lol

It was around $100 for all the 3" piping + an extra $70 for my flex pipe and an afternoon with me and my welder. Had I gone stainless it would have cost me almost 4 times as much! Instead I bought 3 cans of VHT high-temp paint and painted from the flex pipe back. At first I wasnt even running a muffler and i LOVED the sound, but I ended up spending another $80 on a magnaflow 3" muffler.
$3800 isn't much actually.
2 wheels + tires = $2000 that's more than half right there
Steering rack, rods, suspension, arms, fender, plastic parts, skirts and what not and the money is gone.
Mark can you PM me the number for sylcar. I need to buy a rear seat cushion Mine has a burn :x
