Saab Convertible Soft Top Care and Restoration
Article by Simon Turner
It’s only normal after every day use and the year to year wear and tear of being exposed to the elements that your beloved Saab Convertible’s soft top starts to look a little tatty and could do with some TLC. The expense of having a new roof fitted is enough to give anyone a heart attack!, but fear not help is at hand! Renovo, a UK based company, manufacture a full range of soft top care and restoration products which are officially approved by Saab themselves!
Having used the Renovo soft top reviver myself I can vouch for what a great product it is. How do you do it? Here is how……
Stage 1 - Preparation
Renovo Soft Top Dry cleaner is ideal whether you just want to give your soft top a good clean or prepare it for restoration using the Renovo Soft Top Reviver.
Just dry brush the soft top and wet a sponge or cloth whichever you prefer. All you need to do then is shake the can well and spray the cleaner on approximately 20cms away from the soft top. Simply remove with a sponge or cloth and leave for one hour to dry. It’s as simple as that! For ingrained dirt a soft bristle brush may be used.
Stage 2 – Restoration
Renovo Soft Top Reviver should be used when your hood has faded and still looks tatty no matter how much you clean it. The Reviver which is available in Black or Blue gives your soft top that original showroom finish again.
Ensure the soft top is clean and free from any residue of previously used cleaning products. The Renovo Soft Top Dry cleaner is ideal for this application. Pour some of the Reviver into a suitable container which will give you easy access with a 2” brush or sponge.
Simply apply using your normal household 2” brush or sponge and leave to dry for 2 hours ready for a second coat. Repeat this procedure and your done! The results? This good!
Stage 3 – Protection
After restoring your soft top you want to make sure you protect it. The Renovo Ultraproofer protects your newly restored soft top. It protects your soft top from harmful road grime, salt, leaf gum and bird dirt and helps preserve the newly revived soft top colour for longer. It also has built in UV inhibitor and is mold and mildew resistant.
Brush the soft top. Pour some of the Ultraproofer into a suitable container which will give you easy access with a 2” paintbrush. Brush onto the fabric using a normal 2” household paintbrush until completely ‘wetted out’. Leave to dry for 2-3 hours depending on drying conditions. Your fabric soft top is now water and stain repellent.
