Four cylinder turbo engines:

Double overhead camshafts. Four valves per cylinder. Two balancer shafts. Three-way catalytic converter and Lambda sensor. Electronically controlled throttle. Saab Trionic engine management system, which controls fuel injection, ignition, throttle and turbo boost pressure. Turbocharger. Intercooler

Six cylinder turbo engine (V6):

70 litres.

Traction Control System - (TCS)

Monitors and reduces wheel-spin on the driven wheels individually by controlling the brakes and the electronic throttle (standard on 3.Ot V6 and 2.3 Turbo).

Electrical

Alternator: 1755W 130A.
Battery: 12 V 60 Ah (4 cyl.); 12 V 70 Ah (6 cyl.).

Transmission

Transverse drive unit. Front wheel drive. Full synchromesh, five speed manual gearbox. Optional: four speed, electronically controlled automatic transmission with three programmes and direct mechanical lock-up in third and fourth gears (standard on 3.0tV6).

Steering

Power-assisted rack and pinion steering. Steering wheel adjustable for rake and reach. Turning circle 10.8 m (kerb to kerb).

Brakes

Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Power-assisted disc brakes all round, ventilated at the front Handbrake acting on separate rear brake shoes.

Suspension

Front: MacPherson spring struts with twin tube gas shock absorbers and anti-roll bar

Rear: Independent rear suspension of multilink type. Rear axle with rubber suspended central beam, one longitudinal and two transverse link arms for each wheel. Spring struts with gas shock absorbers. Anti-roll bars.

Luggage compartment

Volume 500 dm3 VDA; 450 dm3 SAE. Rear seat folds down completely or 60/40%. Load-through hatch for long items.

Weights

Max. trailer load: 1800 kg.
Max. roof load: 100 kg.
Kerb weight: 1520—1665 kg - depending on specification.
Max. total weight: 2060—2110 kg - depending on specification.
