'Saab Scene' 1985 - Three Awards
Readers of West Germany's premier motoring magazine, 'Auto Motor and Sport', have voted the Saab 900 Turbo 16 as best imported car up to 2.5 litres - the fifth consecutive year that Saab has come first in the category sports sedan.
A record number of readers of the West German magazine - over 100,000 - voted, and the Saab gained nearly 30 per cent in winning its class. Second and third places were taken by the Maserati Biturbo and the Volvo 740.
A second award, based on road tests and expert examination was received from the Automobile Journalists' Association of Canada. In this case the Saab 900 Turbo 16 was voted as best in a selection of 20 cars. Second and third places were a tie between the BMW 316i/325E and the Chrysler H-cars.
Finally, closer to home, 'What Car?' recently voted the 900 16s a winner of the 'Director's Car' category, ahead of the BMW 723i and Audi Quattro. In its summary the magazine said "Because of its unique combination of phenomenal performance driver appeal and sheer practicality the 16s thoroughly deserves its first place status."
What Car April 18th 1990
'What Car' said of the limited edition 900iSE, "This limited edition model incorporates traditional British features, walnut facia and leather seats. Just 300 such Saabs will be sold in 1990."
A little later What Car said of the 900 Classic, "Interiors, electrics, switchgear and seating second to none. Venerable but well respected, solidly built with legendary strength and mechanical integrity."
