'Max Power' Saab 900 Turbo (1) 2 3
"Saab might not be everyones choice of performance car but this 270Bhp 16 valve Saab 900 Turbo has been at the steroids and developed a nasty attitude"
When asked 'What's long, curved, yellow and soft inside?' your answer might reasonably be either a rotting dolphin or a banana, If your answer was the AnG wide-arch Saab 900 Turbo 16S then you either peeked at the pictures first, or you're a highly accomplished time traveller.
If you happen to be the latter, I wonder if you could travel back to 1975. I was 11 at the time and kicked a football through the staff room window at school. This was a big mistake and a blot on my future academic career. It would be very decent if you could just nudge me before I kicked the ball to put a little more curve on the shot. Such intervention would have insured a dreamy goal and might have avoided two weeks detention. It would also have meant I was at home to see Leslie Judd make a space rocket on 'Blue Peter' from a washing up bottle and egg cartons. This would have inspired me to persue scientific excellance, where I would eventually discover an antidote for cancer. All the sick people would be cured and the world would now be a better place to live in. Instead I was picking up litter in the playground and missed Leslie's demonstration. (Thanks for that, Greg - GS).
Plastic Spaceship
As far as craftsmanship and ingenuity are concerned, the plastic spaceship is on an equal footing with the aforementioned yellow Saab. On my first encounter, it was lurking in the bodyshop of AnG Services in London. The car looked rather sad with no bumpers and bits of steel welded around the arches. Committing the car to memory, we didn't honestly expect it to be finished before Princess Di became Queen. Weeks later however we were amazed to discover the finished article.
It's the work of George Pittas and Chris Andrews, partners who've run
AnG Services for nine years, and make a valid claim to be Saab specialists. Carrying out a variety of crash repairs and engine upgrades, it became apparent that very little existed in the way of bodystyling. This shortfall became criticalwhen the company hacked the back off a Saab 900 to produce a very unusual pickup that you may see more of later. So the pair decided to produce their own bodykit.
Before anything else, a set of wheels was purchased. These were the largest the boys could find, and the bodykit was built around them. The wheels are 16in diameter Azev five spokes, 7.5in wide at the front and 9in at the rear. Pirelli rubber was chosen to stop the rims scraping on the floor.
