Halogen headlamps are fitted as standard. These lamps provide a longer, wider and brighter beam than conventional lamps. They also last longer and their light intensity is constant throughout their useful life. In 1970, Saab was the world's first manufacturer to equip its cars with headlamp wipers and washers as standard features. Each headlamp wiper is driven by a separate motor. The headlamp wipers and washers run only when the control stalk is in the wash position. The windscreen and headlamp washers and wipers are activated by the same stalk on the left hand side of the steering column. Starting from the neutral position, the stalk positions are as follows: 1. Windscreen wipers, intermittent operation. 2. Windscreen wipers, low speed. 3. Windscreen wipers, high speed. 4. Windscreen and headlamp washers. When the washers are activated, the windscreen and headlamp wipers will automatically make 3-5 sweeps. The washer fluid container has a capacity of 6 litres (1.3 Imp. Gallons), so it need seldom be topped up. The rear window is equipped with an electric defroster as standard. The heating elements and effective air defroster quickly provide good all-round visibility, even in cold and humid weather. Moreover, the lines of the body keep the rear window clear of road dirt and snow under all weather and road conditions. |
