The interior lighting is switched on automatically as soon as one of the side doors is opened. A separate switch for the interior lighting is provided on the centre console. In addition to the roof lamp, a map-reading lamp is provided behind the inner rear view mirror-in a location where it will not dazzle the driver. A lamp is also provided for lighting up the ignition switch.

The doors have a wide opening angle. The sills are set back and protected against road dirt. The front centre console-a standard item of equipment on certain models-can accommodate a mobile telephone, radio/tape player, CB radio, cassettes, etc.

The Saab 900 has an interior of generous proportions-without a bulky propeller shaft tunnel and without wheel arches, which encroach on the space available for the outer passengers in the back seat. The headroom is also generous.
